What a weekend!

Saturday started out so good and it just went downhill from there. It was supposed to be our BIG day for getting a large part of the deck done. But, after much discussion, it was decided that the plan that was laid out (and the materials purchased for), was not the best plan after all. So, hubby went back to Menard's, got new materials and came back to finally get "really" working after 3PM.

While the guys were working on the deck, my neighbor Jenny convinced me that carpet in the laundry/mud room was not a good idea with the pool and we decided to pull up the carpet. How hard could it be, after all it was only nailed down around the edges. But if I knew what was coming, I would have never even touched it!

The carpet came up great. My other friend, Jo Ann knew just how to cut it up so it would be easier and we wouldn't have to move the washer and dryer out of the room. Perfect!! So there I was, broom in one hand and pliers in the other pulling nails out of the floor when all of a sudden the nail gave, my pliers hit the broom and the end of the broom went under my glasses and scratched my cornea. Fortunately, I was able to get in to an eye doctor who was so kind to meet me at his office at 7PM Saturday night. He told me that it wasn't cut, just an abrasion. But man did it smart!

So, I've spent the last 3 days basically blind. My worst fear come true...laying around sleeping or listening to the TV, not able to see...not able to explain to my 5 year old why she can't go out to play because I can't keep any eye on her.

Today I was able to remove the patch and it feels soooo much better. My vision is still rotten, very blurry. I pray that it will come around soon, praying for no permanent damage.

T.G.I.F.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm so glad it is Friday! This week has flown by yet been sooooo long. The deck is coming along (see pictures) but I guess we weren't supposed to start it until we actually HAD a building permit, applying for it and paying for it doesn't count. I KNOW there are people around us who never even got a building permit to build their deck or have their pool installed. Why is it that the people who actually follow the rules are the same ones that run into problems.

Then I just got a call from the pool installer guy and he informs me that if we do our own grade work to level the ground (to save $216) and it is more than 1" off...he's going to charge us $150 plus $24 per inch is it off. Cheap pool is becoming increasingly expense. OH...AND, Verizon's telephone line runs right smack thru the middle of the pool and they are charging us $130 to move the line......UUUGGGGHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!

On a bright note, I almost have Emily's summer clothes out and the winter ones packed away. Only been working on it since Tuesday! This project has had our bedroom a complete disaster since then.

Emily and I had a moment again this morning, go figure, it was while NOT brushing her teeth again. She has, however, now decided that she likes the minty taste of our toothpaste. She was very excited to blow her minty fresh breath on me after finally getting the job done.

Delmar got a clean bill of health at his 6 week post op checkup this morning and is free to resume normal activities-as if he hadn't already ;0)

Our Firefighter...

This year's dance recital is entitled, "When I Grow Up I Want To Be..." Emily is obviously a firefighter. It will be nice not to be in a scratchy tutu this year! Isn't she adorable, if I do say so myself!

The deck has begun!!!

Hubby and our friend Chris started our deck project last night. The first step was to remove all the railing and add a 6 foot extension to the existing deck. I can't believe they got it done in one afternoon. I'm dreaming of the day when I can sit outside during a soft rain shower and just listen to the rain hitting the roof of my new screen room.

Tonight will be a challenge in the diet department, Corks & Forks. It's a fundraiser for the Decatur Area Arts Council. Lots of wine and food....not sure how I will avoid overeating.

Things with Emily are going smoother, been reading alot on the Focus on the Family website. Lots of good information there.

HHHHMMMMMM.....

"When our children’s requests are reasonable or good, let’s not say no just because saying yes would be inconvenient." (From Parenting at the Speed of Life by Rick Osborne)

Wow! How often have I been guilty of this? Way too many times to count. Sometimes I'm able to stop after I've said no to something and say to myself, "what would it hurt?" Then let her do it. Silly things like playing with PlayDoh. It makes such a mess...little balls of dough all over, on the table, the carpet. And don't get me started on glitter! But....IT'S JUST DOUGH and GLITTER!!! It will vacuum up, it can be washed.

I read this in an article this morning while trying to figure out AGAIN how to discipline Emily. We had another battle this morning. All I wanted was for her to go brush her teeth (she was loitering over breakfast and the bus was coming soon). And she started in, BUT...BUT...BUT! I lost it! Then Delmar chimes in! Bad move on his part. I told him I would appreciate it if I started a "battle" with Emily that he let me finish it. His response: "your way is working out so well for you isn't it." UUUGGGHHHH!!!!

So anyway, I've been online all morning researching the Focus on the Family website trying to find the answer.....

Typical Monday...

can't get motivated to do the things that need to get done, so I thought I would work on this for a bit. I've started several blogs in the past that I have failed to follow thru on. But thanks to the inspiration of Erin and others who have blogged before me, I feel I am in a place to perhaps follow thru this time.

I plan to use this as a journal of sorts. To put my thoughts in writing regarding anything that may be going on in my life on any given day. This includes, but is not limited to: my daughter Emily, my husband Delmar, weight loss, scrapbooking, church, my friends, the list could go on, but you get the idea...

Dance is tonight but Delmar is taking Emily so I can go out for dinner with my friend, Tori (to Olive Garden by the way!) before we go to church for a meeting. Can't wait for those breadsticks!
